Getting Over a Relationship:How to Get Over a Relationship Breakup

By Paul Lindquist

Getting over a relationship break up is probably one of the most stressful things you will ever have to go through. Most people have to deal with a break up at least once, but that provides little reassurance to those who are going through a break up right now.

Here are 3 things you need to do when getting over a relationship break up so you will be able to pick yourself up and move forward with your life:

1. Spend some time collecting your thoughts

A critical beginning step in getting over a relationship break up is to get alone and collect your thoughts. At this point, you are getting all kinds of conflicting thoughts and feelings going through your head. During this time, it doesn't always help to be getting unsolicited advice from others.

2. View your ex in a positive light

This may be hard. You definitely have some bad feelings towards your ex and about the relationship. In spite of that, a great move toward getting over a relationship breakup is to look positively at your ex.

Direct your mind towards things your ex did right in the relationship and stay on good terms with them. It may be that you end up re-uniting with your ex later on. If you want to keep open that possibility, the best thing is to think about their good points and maintain a civil relationship with them.

3. Take some time to improve yourself

Now that you have organized your thoughts and feelings and adopted a right view of your ex, the next step in the process of getting over a relationship break up is to take your mind off of the relationship and focus on doing things to make yourself better.

Spend some time with friends and family. Get involved in a hobby you like. Do some volunteer work. The bottom line is to change your life in a positive way.
