Five Things You Should Know About Small Joint Manipulation!

When people watch the Mixed Martial Arts extravaganzas, they watch grown men being twisted into mat slapping broken noodles, and they see all the big one punch knock outs. This is truly amazing and potent and wonderful martial arts, but they are missing the boat. One of those odd, little regulations they have in MMA that not many people pay attention to, you see, is No Small Joint Manipulation.

Now what the heck could be so frightening about manipulating small joints that the monsters of the MMA, with all their limb twisting prowess and face smashing fists could be afraid of them? I mean, couldn't you just beat the holy you know what out of any fellow who tries this Small Joint Manipulation thing? Shouldn't it be easy to handle somebody who is going after your little, itsy bitsy finger?

One thing I discovered, when I first started training in the martial arts, is that if you grab somebody by the fingers, and I would assume Small Joint Manipulation refers expressly to the fingers, the fight is over. If you manage to grab somebody just by one of his little hand worms and bend that finger back, they will go up on their toes, prance around like a drunken ballerina and do what you want, and even follow their little finger, should you throw that finger, say, off a cliff. Isn't that the most strangest and most ridiculous thing you have ever heard?

Another thing you can do with fingers is twist them. Grab a couple of fingers and just turn them. The fingers will grind, the knuckles will grind, and Mr. Bad Guy will suddenly swirl around in front of you and you will be able to literally mop up the floor with him.

Another thing you can do with fingers, and I really think this one is incredible, is press sideways on them. Simply place a thumb on a joint, another finger on the tip of their finger, and press ninety degrees to the way the joint is meant to bend. Man, this is an instant finger breaker, and Mr. Mugger is suddenly going to be on his knees and looking up at you and crying.

Here's a most insidious and evil little manipulation that will give you a wide smile, dig your fingernail into the base of the his nail. This is like sticking bamboo shoots right under the fingers, and the pain is more than excruciating. Again, Mr. Bad guy will drop to his knees faster than fast and beg you to leg go.

My favorite small joint manipulation, however, is to catch the fist and press the tip of the finger towards the second joint of that finger. You are bending the finger more than it is meant to be bent, and the screams for mercy are going to be music to your delicate ears. This is a hard one to catch, I mean we're talking about catching a moving fist, but that makes it all the juicier when you do get it.

Fingers are small little sausages with immense potential for hurt. Grab a finger or two and twist, bend too much, bend back, bend sideways, dig your nail into, and somebody is going down quick. Practice a few of these (gently) with a couple of work out partners, and you'll soon know why the big bad boys of the MMA are deathly afraid of a little True Art.

There are also beaches everywhere in Florida that make excellent spots to catch some saltwater fish. This is also called surf fishing, and when the water is not too choppy and not flooded with people, then the fishing will more than likely be good.

If you have access to a dock, specifically one that has a light shining in the water then this will make great for some night fishing. Snook can almost always be found around a dock that has a light on at night time, along with sheepshead and snapper.

You also might want to consider bridge fishing, one famous bridge that is great to fish from in Florida is the old Sunshine Skyway Bridge. They have bait stands and tackle shops on both sides for the saltwater angler. If you are in the Tampa Bay area and do not have a boat, this will be your best option next to fishing the Fort Desoto piers.

So if you thought that you needed a boat to catch fish in Florida, you can think again. I have had great success inshore fishing in Florida fishing from all of the types of structures that I have mentioned in this article.

For as long as nearly any hockey fan can remember, the Canadiens and Maple Leafs have been arch enemies in hockey. This all dates back over 60 years, as the Leafs and Habs have played 12 playoff series against each other, including five times in the Stanley Cup finals.

When the NHL was created in 1917, these differences received the opportunity to play themselves out in a rivalry between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. The Maple Leafs' fan base consisted mainly of English-speaking Canadians of British descent; in fact, the team's logo was in essence a stylized version of the Canadian Army's Cap Badge Insignia during World War I, This held particular significance for Leaf owner Conn Smythe, who had served as an artillery officer during the Great War.

In Montreal, the Canadiens were built around a French fan base, as the province of Quebec had its origins with the French republic. In fact, the Canadiens chose to sing "O Canada" before each game, and most of the song was recited in French over English.

The two teams had their moments in the earlier part of the 20th century, but things really began to heat up in the 60s. During the 1960s, every Stanley Cup was won by either the Leafs or the Canadiens, save for two. The most memorable season between the two may be the 1967 campaign, during which the teams faced off against each other during Canada's 100 year anniversary. The Leafs staged a major upset, beating the Canadiens that year.

Everything seemed to change after the 1967 season. Since this season, Montreal has won 10 more Stanley Cups, and the Maple Leafs have won none. In fact, they haven't even made it to the final series since 1967. Their closest campaign was the 1993 season, but they were stopped short by the Kings in the conference finals.

Eleven seasons ago, the NHL decided to switch the Maple Leafs into the same division as Montreal. While the teams often play each other and the games are heated, they haven't met in the playoffs since this shift occurred.

Two seasons ago, both teams were fighting for a playoff spot. It looked as if it would come down to a game between Montreal and Toronto, sparking all of the excitement their rivalry brings. Toronto won this game, but a win by the Islanders precluded them from the playoffs.

Top Ten Hiking Essentials

These are the most important items in your pack. Applicable to both dayhikes and backpacking trips, these will improve your safety, comfort and quality of your outdoor adventure.

Obtain a map of where you will be hiking. Usually, you can pick one up at the park visitor center or ranger station. You can also download maps from various websites. Having a good map will not only will not only prevent you from getting lost, but it can help rescuers find you if you suffer an injury.

Purchase a map reading compass and learn how to use it. Once you've learned how to orient the park map and the compass, you will know what direction you are facing, how to easily correct your course and get back on track.

Always carry two, one liter water bottles. Two liters is the minimum daily intake but chances are you will require more. Hiking is a physical activity and through perspiration, exposure and climate you can become dehydrated quickly. Bring some type of water purifier with you. For personal use, I take liquid treatment with me. Although you can survive a month without food, you will only last a few days without water.

Take a bit more food than you think you will need, to get you through an extra day if need be. This can easily be accomplished by having a few whole food bars with you, each of which constitute a complete meal replacement. Important for maintaining energy output.

Bring a couple more layers of clothing. These will serve to keep you warm and dry should the temperature drop unexpectedly, you somehow become wet or both. Choose layers that are synthetic. Most of them will still retain some insulative quality even if they are wet and they tend to dry a lot faster.

Pack some sort of light source like a headlamp or flashlight. If you are forced to make camp or hike out in the dark, you will be able to see trail debris an obstacles that could cause danger.

Having an accident or injury in the backcountry is no fun. Bring a small first aid kit with you. You can create one out of household supplies but don't forget hiking needs like moleskin or blister treatment. I recommend taking a basic wilderness medicine course.

On rare occasion one must light a fire in the backcountry as a matter of survival. I've been on a kayak trip where someone overturned and they were soaked just as the temperature started to drop. Do not light a fire unless absolutely necessary. Bring matches and a lighter in a waterproof case and use caution to avoid wildfires.

A small camping knife may come in handy for a number of purposes. Make sure that the one you use has a locking blade, you don't want it to close on a finger.

Last but not least, UV protection. Bring a hat with a brim, sunblock and a pair of sunglasses if you will be out in the sun for an extended period. Your eyes and skin will thank you.

Hockey is one of the greatest sports in North America. You can play it on concrete during the summer and you can play it on the ice during the winter but the only problem with it is that you need a lot of equipment. Hockey jerseys and hockey equipment can get expensive sometimes so you want to make sure that you take good care of the pieces you already own. It is important to wash your hockey jerseys after every single time you wear them to play hockey so that you don't run into some pretty serious problems with them.

Strong odors are caused by certain types of bacteria. Those bacteria cover your hockey jerseys after the games because they are swimming in your sweat drops and loving it. Sweat and bodily fluids flush out the bacteria in your body and off of your skin but deposit all of that disgusting stuff onto your clothing. If you want to cut back on the smell you're going to have to kill the bacteria and the only way to do that is to wash your jerseys properly.

Bacteria bring strong foul odors but it also brings a dangerous element as well. Bacteria cause infections and some of the worst kinds of bacteria can grow in unwashed fabrics like hockey jerseys and hockey equipment. When you combine porous fabric with sweaty bodies you get a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria. When you don't have a prim and proper hockey jersey your coach might not like playing you that often, especially if you're on a sponsored team. Hockey is a spectator sport after all and the spectators want to see bright colors and well kept equipment. You'll find yourself sitting on the bench if you have a dirty and disgusting hockey jersey on. Don't lose out on the play time.

Famous Victorian Bushfire Koala, Sam, Dies

In February 2009 bush fires had a devastating affect on the state of Victoria. The fires burnt over 400,000 hectares with 210 people losing their lives and thousands losing their homes.

One story allowed some hope. Out of the ashes came a Koala bear that managed to survive the fires. Her name was Sam. This Koala and the firefighter that rescued her became famous the world over as millions saw the video of him giving water to the Koala. The Koala recovered from her second and third degree burns at South Ash Wildlife Refuge.

It turns out that Sam the Koala had a disease called "Urogenital chlamydia" This disease has affected nearly 50% of the Koala population particularly in the Victoria area. It may sound familiar to you as Chlamydia is usually associated with a human sexually transmitted disease. Koalas are affected similarly with females becoming infertile. Other symptoms include urinary tract infections and even loss of sight.

Sam the Koala was to have an operation to remove some cysts caused by the disease. Unfortunately when they came to operate, it was clear that the disease was much more wide spread and nothing could be done. It was decided to allow Sam to be euthanized rather than let her suffer.

The firefighter who rescued the Koala and gave him the water, David Tree, is said to be devastated. The Koala was for him such a fighter and a symbol of hope for the bushfire survivors. The people of Victoria intend to place a commemorative plaque near the place where he was given the water.

The Koala is a native animal of Australia and one you should try and see on your visit to Australia. They tend to live high up in Eucalyptus trees as this is their main food supply. Normally Koalas don't drink water as they get all the water they need from the Eucalyptus leaves.

Koala bears carry their young in a pouch, making them a marsupial. Did you know that the baby Koala is called a joey? It is only 2cm long when it is born and will live in its mother's pouch for at least 6 months. It will then spend time in and out of the pouch until it can survive on its own.

Koalas are sadly not as common as Kangaroos so seeing one on your trip is a little tricky. Wildlife parks and Koala sanctuaries are great places to see Koala bears especially as some of these places will in fact let you hold them. There is nothing better than seeing one in its natural habitat in the wild. If you know where to look you have a good chance of seeing one in the wild.

Just don't think about trying to give them a cuddle in the wild. If you disturb them, they can be very vicious. You only need to take a look at their claws to work that out.

Why Tiger's Loss is More Than Just a Loss

Y.E. Yang shocked the world and probably himself by beating the world's best golfer, and maybe the greatest golfer of all time, Tiger Woods, by coming back from 2 strokes down Sunday to win the PGA Championship. Yang is the first Asian player to win a Major, the first player to beat Tiger Woods when Woods was tied or all alone in the lead after 54 holes of golf. Golf enthusiasts cheered, David took down Goliath, 12 never struck for Cinderella, No. 110 took down No. 1.

Yay? I don't think the PGA, it's sponsors, or the casual golf fan are very happy. Tiger Woods in the starter, middle reliever, and closer for the PGA. Without Tiger, as we saw last year, no one cares. Now, people are getting the feeling that Tiger has lost it. He didn't win a major this year and pretty much choked away the PGA Championship after missing the cut at the British Open.

Woods is by no means past his prime. After returning from an injury that ended his 2008 campaign, Woods has bounced back with wins at five tournaments. Some of these involved some vintage Woods Sunday comebacks. Unfortunately, the majors are far more watched than the other tournaments, so the typical sports fan doesn't realize that all's not lost in Tiger's corner.

While everyone loves to talk about Yang and what he did today, this was a crippling blow to the PGA in 2009. There were simply no exciting stories that capped off the year of majors. Tom Watson nearly became the oldest golfer (by far) to ever win a major, before losing it on the final day. Woods went the entire year without a major, virtually unheard of during his career.

Yet, this pushes it to another level. You're talking about the greatest golfer on Earth, losing to some no-name from South Korea who probably won't win another major. If Tiger had won, it would've given hope to next year, a hope maybe he finally does what he was destined to do, win all the major in the same year and pass Jack Nicklaus for the most Major wins ever.

While there are a few more months of golf left, there are no majors, and only serious golf enthusiasts will track these events. Fringe fans will go back to watching other sports, and will be far from enthused about the 2010 golf season.

Tiger must bounce back in 2009. He is the face of the PGA, and any story lines lacking Tiger Woods will do anything but help the sport grow.

Here's to hoping that 2010 brings us a Tiger resurgence, and most notably, a major or two. The sport really needs it.
