Allen Iverson Signs With Grizzlies

By Randy LaRoche

Although I loathe Allen Iverson for what he did in Detroit with the team, ruining what was an exceptionally closely knit group that happened to be one of the premier organizations in the Eastern Conference, I have got to set my dislike for the man to the side.

Not because I want to, but since the biggest deal in the history of the Memphis Grizzlies' team took place on Wednesday. "The Answer" at long last answered the doubt that several Memphians have been inquiring about.

Will he go there or not?

By means of his Twitter account, Iverson, who will soon be earning $3.5 million this year for the Grizzlies, concluded all of the rumors and agreed in provisions to become a part of the Grizzlies, his 3rd team in the most recent four seasons.

The contract also contains incentives for reaching the playoffs, something that hasn't happened since '06 (when the team lost to the Mavs in the 1st round), and if they win the league finals.

Through the years, Iverson has had obstacles understanding leadership and taking whatever role that comes to him (example: Detroit) and fighting with coaches (example: the Sixers), which is why very few organizations happened to be interested in him following his debacle in Detroit.

Now he has chance to do something comparable to what he did in Philly (when he entered the league) and guide the fortunes of this team around and make it happen with a trio of jovial stars in O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay, and Hasheem Thabeet.

While we should not pencil the Grizzlies in for the playoffs by any means, it is not difficult to assume that the team will be better from latest year.

If Iverson stays for greater than one year, possibly there might be an opportunity, but I don't think people should get their hopes up on the fact that the Grizzlies will reach the post-season.

It is too soon.
