Learn All About Wakeskate

By David Hagerman

Wakeboarding is a variant of water skiing. Water skiing itself is a variant of ice skiing and road skating. In such a scenario, it is not surprising that there are sports that are variants of wakeboarding itself.

Wakeskating is a variant of wakeboarding. As you would know, the wake is the turbulence generated by the motor boat that is towing the person on the wakeboard. The person balances the board and performs tricks and stunts with the help of the wake. These stunts include those that involve jumping in the air too.

So what does wakeskating involve and what's a wakeskate? It is a water sport where there's nothing binding the individual to the wakeboard. There are several sorts of bindings used to ensure the individual on the wakeboard remains resolutely attached to it at any time. This binding, when absent, converts your wakeboarding experience into a wakeskating experience.

Needless to assert, the absence of binding makes a massive difference to the game. When skimming across the surface of the water on a wakeskate, you won't only have to worry about controlling and maneuvering the skate but also retaining your balance and staying on the wakeskate at any time.

A wakeboard has a smooth finish. This does not pose any problems as the feet are bound to the surface. However, a smooth finish on a wakeskate will pose countless issues for the individual. The moment the smooth surfaced wakeskate becomes wet, it will become virtually impossible to gain any grip or traction on the same. This can make it difficult to retain hold on the skate. However, wakeskaters not only retain control but also perform stunts using the wakeskate. How is this possible?

This is possible as the top surface is not smooth as it is in a wakeboard. The surface of the wakeskate is covered in tape or foam that enhances the grip of the individual standing on the skate. The rider is needed to wear high quality shoes that may give even more grip on the skate. Often , the aggregate of a roughed up surface and quality shoes gives the individual more control on the wakeskate. Naturally, handling a wakeskate is unquestionably going to be harder than handling a wakeboard. However, this acts as a challenge for all those individuals who became gurus in wakeboarding.

Another major distinction between wakeskating and wakeboarding is that you actually don't need a wake to take part in the previous sport. This brings down your cost as you can use just any and each ship to perform wakeskating. Whether you buy your ship or whether you hire the same, the cost comes down and this makes wakeskating more cost-effective in comparison to other sports.

These skates are a lot smaller than wakeboards. This is to offer you a good grip when surfing the water.

If you opt for wakeskating, you'll have to pay attention to your shoes. You will have to select shoes that are used for skateboarding as it helps you get a grip on your board.
